Reporting a problem

Last updated October 29, 2026

This is a plain-language draft. It hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet and may change. It doesn't claim that Field Journal meets any particular law.

Copied work, someone pretending to be someone else, harassment, or a post that gives away private details or a sensitive place: here's how to tell us.

  1. 1.If you have an account

    Pieces, responses, Letters, Biographies and shop reviews all have a Report option. On a piece, it's in the ⋯ menu. Pick the reason that fits best:

    • Spam or advertising
    • Harassment or bullying
    • Racist, sexist, homophobic or hateful
    • Pornographic or sexual content
    • Selling products or taking bookings
    • Heavily political content
    • AI-generated image
    • False or misleading information
    • Unsafe or illegal activity
    • Copied writing or photos (copyright)
    • Pretending to be someone else
    • Shares private details or a sensitive location
    • Something else

    Reports are private. Only Field Journal's moderators see them, and the person you report isn't told who it was. If 3 different people report a piece, it's hidden until a moderator has looked at it.

  2. 2.If you don't have an account, or it's about copyright

    Email myfieldjournalcommunity@gmail.com. For copied writing or photos, please include:

    • your name and how to reach you;
    • the original work that's yours (a link or a short description);
    • the link to the copy on Field Journal;
    • a line saying you own the work, or are acting for the person who does, and didn't allow this use.

    For impersonation, harassment or private details, send the link and a short note about what's wrong. Please don't send more personal information than we need.

  3. 3.What happens next

    Field Journal is run by one person, so it can take a few days to reply. We read every report, may ask for more details, and decide case by case. We may hold, hide or remove the content, contact the person who posted it, or leave it up if it doesn't break the rules.

    Sending a report doesn't mean it's been accepted. We'll let you know what we decided when we can. We never post your details or your report publicly.

  4. 4.If someone is in danger

    If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first.
